NOW & THEN-Summary
Four
older gay men. In their 50s
and 60s. You won’t find
them in the bars or at the right white party.
But boy, do they have stories to tell.
In
a structure similar to JOY LUCK CLUB with a little bit of LOST thrown
in, Michael, Franklin, Vincent and Sam share their stories, their
triumphs, their hidden secrets and their desires in this complex but
fascinating miniseries/back door pilot for television.
Sam
and Vincent have been married for 20 years.
Their friends envy them and their longevity.
But what they don’t realize is the glue that holds these two
together was affixed with a horrible betrayal and an emotional
blackmail. Although they
keep a wonderful front, the glue is getting old and the edges are
starting to fray. Will they
ultimately come undone?
Franklin
is a regular guy who keeps his nose clean and has worked the same blue
collar job for a very long time. But
he, too, holds a secret of a long ago crime that he may just finally be
willing to unload.
Finally,
Michael is a movie producer who loves the young men.
He has his own “GAYBOY” mansion in the Hollywood Hills and
throws countless wild parties. He
steadfastly adheres to a no questions asked, open door policy to any
party boy, drifter, or loser who happens to float on by.
Why? What is the
guilt that he is hiding? Michael
pours his life into producing substantial gay themed movies.
But there is a reason for that, too.
One he is finally willing to share.
Along
with these storylines, we also follow four younger “counterparts”.
And how they are making their way through gay life.
One is a singer, one an actor in Michael’s movie, one a
security guard and the other a drifter.
Will they make the same mistakes as their older counterparts?
Will they find love, luck and happiness?
And will our older characters finally release the emotional bonds
that have long trapped them?
With
8 complex characters whose storylines intersect and interweave through
old fashioned storytelling using flashback and melodrama, NOW &
THEN is a smartly written gay project we have not yet seen.
And one that finally gives a long overdue glimpse of the older
generation. This is truly a
TV series for every gay audience.
And
with wonderful older actors out there hopefully willing to take on these
great roles, it should be a wonderful dramatic success. |
